Before the keys

Rules of the road

Our carts are street-legal low-speed vehicles. Treat one like a small car that tops out modestly, not like a toy for the sand.

This is shop guidance, not legal advice

South Carolina and the City of Folly Beach set the real rules, and they can change. If a sign and this page disagree, follow the sign and call us. We are a rental shop reminding you how our carts leave the lot.

Who drives

The driver is 16 or older with a valid driver's license on them. We look at it before the keys move. One licensed driver is named on the request. Passengers don't take a turn at the wheel.

Which streets

Stay on roads posted 35 miles an hour or less. You may cross a faster road at an intersection. You don't travel along it. On Folly, Center Street and Folly Road are cross-at-the-light streets for our carts. We draw that on a one-page map in the driveway.

Not on the beach

Not on the sand, the dunes, the beach accesses, or the sidewalk. Not on the pier. Park at the beach house and walk the last bit with the chairs. A cart in the wash ends the rental.

Night, rain, and standing water

These are street-legal low-speed vehicles: headlights, signals, belts, a windshield, and a plate. They are not boats. If rain or marsh fog cuts your view, park under the house. Don't push through deep water on the shell roads.

Passengers

Belts on. Arms and legs inside. Nobody on the rear rack, the roof, or a lap. Children get their own seat. Bring a car seat if you want one. We don't stock them.

Parking and a clear head

All four tires off the travel lane, pointed with traffic. Don't block a driveway that isn't yours. The driver doesn't drink. Same rule as a car.
